Not long ago I treated my feet to a pedicure and my back to that awesome massage chair thingamajig at the nail salon. 🙂 I was absolutely loving it when a stunning young lady, dressed very stylishly, walked in and sat down next to me. The atmosphere quickly changed as she was very rude to the nail techs and complained loudly that the massage chair was irritating her. She harshly barked at the poor nail tech that it was “the most annoying thing!” She started punching buttons on the remote and demanding that someone “make it stop immediately!”  Really??  Then she started talking on her phone and began dragging someone through the mud pretty thoroughly.  Ugh.
Wow…she was so beautiful on the outside…but something had gone really wrong on the inside.
I was pretty much stuck next to this delightful bundle of joy, so I tried to strike up a conversation…but she wasn’t having it!  I just started praying, “Ok, Lord, you know this gal. Please help her. And I’d really love to be able to enjoy this pedicure. Thanks, Lord!”
So halfway through this ordeal, (I kid you not) a young lady with a handicap came in, and with assistance, was seated on my other side.  She was pleasant, kind, and excited to be there! She exclaimed, “Ooh I love this so much!” Every step of the pedicure caused her to “ooh” and “ahh” and giggle! At one point she leaned toward me and said, “Isn’t God good?” It was amazing how her presence began to lighten the room!  She was heaven sent!
That was quite possibly the clearest picture of “letting your light shine” that I have ever seen. That precious girl literally dispelled the darkness that felt like an oppressive cloud. It was as though she simply flipped a switch! You know, I’m sure the angry girl is a hurting person, and I truly feel sorry for her. I will continue to pray for her every time God brings her to my mind. And I will always remember the handicapped young lady as someone that I want to strive to be like. No one and nothing was stopping her light from shining bright! Â
