Submitting Makes You Strong!

Submit To God

This morning as I was in the book of James reading what it means to submit to God, a scene from my early 20’s came to mind. Back then I was an entertainer living with several roommates and parties went on all night long at this house, night after night. There was even pot in the cookie jar (don’t worry, Mom, I never touched it)!  I was completely weary of the party lifestyle…so much so…that I remember locking myself in my room and wearing headphones to block out the craziness.

Funny how I felt the most lonely in a house that was always full of people.

One day a new girl auditioned for the show that my roommates and I were in. She was offered a part but she said, “I will pray about it, and give my answer ASAP.” I remember my roommates making fun of this girl, and one said, “That is so weak. She’s a grown woman, can’t she make a decision for herself?” At that moment I was actually jealous of the girl. I thought, “I want that.” I had been raised in church, and I knew what my family would say…but I really hadn’t developed a strong faith and relationship with God on my own. The seeds that had been planted were there…they just needed to be watered. And I remember being very thirsty!

Thank God, shortly after I had that realization, I met a sweet girl who was looking for a room mate…and just like that…The Lord provided a new place for me to live.  I can look back at the years after that and see how God continually wooed me, and how I came to know and trust Him more and more. It’s very clear that my life with Jesus Christ as The Lord of my life is beyond what I could ever have imagined possible. It’s night and day!

I love to remember because it fuels my fire for what I know…that I know…is true: He loves us, is for us, and will always lead us in the best way! Submitting to Him is always for our best. Submitting makes us strong not weak!

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God, and He will come near to you. Humble yourselves before The Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:7-8,10
